BFFS Financial Counselling

Financial Counsellors provide information, support and advocacy to assist people in financial difficulty. The Bendigo Family and Financial Services Financial Counselling service is Free, Independent and Confidential.Financial Counselling is a service for people who would like more information about what to do if they are: 

  • Experiencing difficulty paying utility bills, phone bills or fines 
  • Experiencing difficulty paying credit cards or personal loans 
  • Receiving insistent correspondence from debt collectors or creditors 
  • Facing car repossession 
  • Facing eviction from your home 
  • Experiencing difficulty meeting home loan repayments or are facing houserepossession

Financial Counsellors can:

  • Assist to negotiate with creditors and work out paymentarrangements
  • Provide information on government support programs including benefits and entitlements
  • Assist to address Centrelink issues 
  • Assist with loan and credit issues 
  • Provide information about bankruptcy
  • Provide information about options to address debts or your financialsituation
  • Provide individually tailored financial education to strengthen moneymanagement skills. ยท Provide referral to specialist services 
  • Provide information in a way that each client can understand 
  • Provides personal support in times of crisis over the short and long-term 

Financial counsellors have an extensive knowledge of in a range of areasof law and policy, including consumer credit law, debt enforcement practices,the bankruptcy regime, industry hardship policies and government concessionframeworks.

What to bring with you:

  • Centrelink Income statements or pay slips
  • Letters of demand 
  • Provide financial literacy education to help strengthen money managementskills
  • Copies of outstanding bills 
  • Court Orders 
  • Original Contracts 
  • Bank or credit card statements
